Placements scheme returns to improve opportunities in the screen industries

The Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN) has launched a new round of funded work experience opportunities open to Yorkshire and the Humber SMEs operating in the screen industries.

The SIGN Placements, Internships and Insights scheme is funding businesses to host a placement, internship or insight (work shadowing) opportunity to the value of £12,000 and up to six months in duration, from July 2022. These opportunities will support access to employment and progression for people from diverse backgrounds who are currently under-represented in the screen industries: individuals from diverse ethnicities, those who are disabled, women, those joining or returning to the sector who are aged over 35, those who identify as LGBTQ+ and those from lower socio economic backgrounds.

Widening access to employment and progression in the screen industries and helping ensure talented people are able to take up paid opportunities is one of the major challenges facing the sector, an issue highlighted in our series of short films, Industry Voices, produced with Candour Productions. This Leeds-based TV and film production company hosted Imaan on a SIGN funded placement in 2021. Candour’s Production Manager, Jamie Stratton, said: “The placement has been a great success. We were so impressed by Imaan, her attitude and her work that we have offered her a further contract in the development team.”

Applications close at 5pm, Monday 6 June 2022.
