In episode 11 of Coming Up Next, Belinda Campbell, joint Managing Director at Red Planet Pictures, considers the long-term future of traditional broadcasters in the face of increased competition from streamers.
Campbell shares that the Red Planet Pictures team are back shooting their hit show, Death in Paradise for BBC One, thanks in part to new filming protocols which enabled filming to restart back in the summer and the Government’s Film & TV Production Restart Scheme, which provided insurance for productions to get back up and running.
The Managing Director also discusses the responsibility that gatekeepers have to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in the screen industries: ‘Undoubtedly, we haven’t gone far enough. … We have to make sure this industry is fully inclusive in terms of who we employ, but also the programmes we make, that we are making programmes that reflect the lives and reflect the interests of everybody.’
Coming Up Next is a co production between the Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN) and C21Media.
