Writing for Games is a free, 8-week, online programme for writers currently working in film and TV in the Yorkshire and Humber region who want to expand into writing for games. This training is provided by John Yorke Story in partnership with SIGN.
Through this training you will master story principles for video games by devising a story for a new game. You’ll start by developing a protagonist for your game idea before generating enough story for five acts. You’ll explore how to merge story and gameplay in a way that keeps your audience engaged throughout the game.
Using John Yorke Story’s training portal, you’ll engage in active study, watching and practising skills on a live project while contributing to lively discussions. A new module will open every week, and you will complete assignments and contribute to discussions at a time that suits you providing you meet each weekly deadline. You will share work with your peers and receive feedback from two specialist tutors.
This programme is suitable for game writers and designers, narrative designers, cinematic directors, video games players, reviewers looking to start writing, and screenwriters looking to move into games writing.
