The Screen Industries Growth Network (SIGN) is delivering four hybrid research seminars with its partner universities (University of Hull, University of Huddersfield, York St John University and Leeds Beckett University). The series begins in December 2021 and runs through to March 2022. These seminars provide an opportunity to share knowledge between academics and people working in the industries, on screen-related topics specific to Yorkshire and the Humber.
- From Courses to Careers: Guiding Young People through the Screen Industries – 8 December 2021 / University of Hull
- Working in Telly is Bad for You – 19 January 2022 / University of Huddersfield
- Connecting Screens: Playing with Immersive Systems – 30 March / Leeds Beckett University
- Social Justice, Inclusion and the Screen Industries – 20 April / York St John University
Skills and training is the focus for the Hull seminar, specifically post-16 education, with representatives lined up from the Air TV, ITV Studios, Pact, Pearson and Screen Yorkshire.
Topics and speakers for the Huddersfield event include Dr Mark Taylor discussing his latest co-authored publication, Culture Is Bad For You, findings from The Time Project and the launch of Yorkshire Film and Television School’s innovation lab focussing on equality, diversity and inclusion in screen media production.
With the potential for monolithic cloud models to dominate and gate-keep our connected creative industries and audiences, our March research seminar, hosted by Leeds Beckett, will explore the possibilities offered by empowered, playful, co-participation in media production.
The final event at York St John will cover themes of social justice and diversity and inclusion in the screen industries. There will also be an opportunity to hear from graduates working in the sector, from the School of the Arts and the University of York’s Department of Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media.
Book your FREE place for the first in the series on 8 December.
Registration for seminars taking place in the new year will open in due course. Keep up-to-date by subscribing to updates from SIGN or by visiting our events page.
